Properties

PVDF is a commonly used binder material in lithium-ion batteries, particularly for the cathodes. Here are the properties that make PVDF a suitable choice for battery applications:

  • Adhesion. PVDF provides strong adhesion between electrode materials and the current collector, ensuring good cohesion within the electrode and improving the cycle life of the battery.
  • Chemical stability. PVDF exhibits excellent chemical resistance to various solvents, electrolytes, and high-temperature conditions, which is essential for maintaining performance over the battery's life.
  • Thermal stability. PVDF Maintains performance even at elevated temperatures, which is crucial for the safety and longevity of batteries.
  • Chemical compatibility. PVDF is compatible with a wide range of active materials and electrolytes, helping to facilitate ion transport and improve overall battery performance.

Application Note

The PVDF binder is thoroughly mixed with the active material, where ratio can range from 30:70 to 1:99, respectively, depending on application, active material, additives, etc. Use N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) to dilute if necessary. The resulting slurry is coated on current collector (e.g. doctor blade) and dried (usually at 80 °C) in vacuum or ambient environment.

Empower your energy solutions with our superior PVDF battery binder –– the ultimate choice for durability and performance.
