Functional electronic wet chemicals are indispensable basic chemical materials for developing, cleaning and etching process of semiconductor manufacturing. They are mainly applied in integrated circuit manufacturing, flat panel display manufacturing and photovoltaic cell manufacturing.

Integrated circuit manufacturing

The application of functional electronic wet chemicals in integrated circuit manufacturing mainly refers to wafer processing, including the pre-treatment of silicon wafers before wafer processing and backend packaging and testing. The wafer processing is very complex, which can be divided into lithography, etching, oxidation, thin film, chemical mechanical polishing grinding (CMP), diffusion (DIFF) and other parts. Lithography, etching, oxidation and surface pretreatment processes all require functional electronic wet chemicals.

Functional electronic wet chemicals are mainly used in the development, lithography (etching-peeling) and cleaning processes of array process in flat panel display manufacturing. The array process for flat panel display manufacturing is similar to wafer processing, except that array fabricates thin-film transistors on glass instead of silicon wafers. Functional electronic wet chemicals are key basic materials in flat panel display manufacturing. The cleaning of particles and organic matter on the substrate, the development and removal of photoresists, and the etching of circuit require functional electronic wet chemicals.

Photovoltaic cell manufacturing

The main process of photovoltaic cell manufacturing include texturing, P-N junction preparation, aluminum backplane preparation, front and back metal contact, and anti-reflection layer deposition. Functional electronic wet chemicals are mainly used in the texturing, cleaning and etching of photovoltaic cell manufacturing. The amount of functional electronic wet chemicals used in the texturing processing part accounts for 60%-70% of the total consumption.

Product Grades

With the improvement of electronic components manufacturing requirements, the requirement for functional electronic wet chemicals in related industries are also increasing. In order to standardize the world’s ultra-clean and high-purity reagents, the International Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Organization classifies functional electronic wet chemicals into five grades (G1-G5). The photovoltaic field generally only requires G1 level. The flat panel display field generally requires G2 and G3 levels. The grade requirement of functional electronic wet chemicals used in integrated circuits is relatively high, which is G3, G4 and G5 levels. The purity requirement of functional wet electronic chemicals used in discrete devices is lower than that of integrated circuits, which is basically concentrated in G2 level.
