Acrylonitrile Multi-Copolymer

Acrylonitrile multi-copolymer binders are water-based binders. Compared with traditional solvent-based binders, acrylonitrile multi-copolymer binders have higher product viscosity, better suspension ability for powder materials, and no thickener and organic solvent are required when used, which helps to reduce material costs and avoid environmental pollution and safety issues in lithium-ion battery production. Alfa Chemistry offers high-quality acrylonitrile multi-copolymers. Please contact us for pricing and more information on this product.

Properties

Acrylonitrile multi-copolymers have gained importance as battery binders due to their excellent chemical resistance, thermal stability, and flexibility. Details are as follows:

  • Chemical resistance. Acrylonitrile multi-copolymers exhibit strong resistance to chemicals involved in the battery environment, including electrolytes, making them suitable for aggressive battery environments.
  • Thermal stability. Acrylonitrile multi-copolymers maintain stability at high temperatures, which is essential in ensuring battery safety and longevity.
  • Flexibility. The elasticity of acrylonitrile multi-copolymers aids in accommodating the expansion and contraction of active materials during charge-discharge cycles.

Applications

Acrylonitrile multi-copolymer binders are suitable for a variety of positive and negative electrode materials, including LiCoO2, LiMn2O4 and LiFePO4 positive electrode materials, as well as carbon negative electrode materials. The recommended binder content in the negative electrode sheet is 2-5%, while for the positive electrode sheet, the binder content is recommended to be 1.5-4% (the amount of binder can be appropriately increased when lithium iron phosphate is the positive electrode sheet).

Application Note

The acrylonitrile multi-copolymer binder is thoroughly mixed with the active material, where ratio can range from 30:70 to 1:99, respectively, depending on application, active material, additives, etc. Water is used to dilute the mixture if necessary. The resulting slurry is coated on current collector (e.g. doctor blade) and dried (usually at 80 °C) in vacuum or ambient environment.
